Ulster County Veterans Cemetery, New Paltz, NY - Project Summary
Alfandre Architecture designed and observed the construction of the Committal Service Shelter portion of the Veterans Cemetery in Ulster County.
Ulster County's Expanded Veterans Cemetery Project
In late 2018 Ulster County issued a Request for Proposals for design services to expand the Veterans Cemetery to meet growing needs and long-term plans for veteran burials.
The existing Ulster County Veterans Cemetery is located on the grounds of the New Paltz Rural Cemetery located at 81 Plains Road in New Paltz, NY. The expanded cemetery is currently under construction on a previously vacant 8-acre field adjacent to the New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
Veterans Cemetery Site
The new Veterans Cemetery is set apart from the public portion of the New Paltz Rural Cemetery and is designated by a flag plaza. The site includes a Committal Service Shelter for interment ceremonies and a granite Columbaria for permanent public storage of funerary urns. Grave sites for veterans and close family members border the committal shelter and are marked and arranged in the military tradition.
Committal Service Shelter at the Veterans Cemetery
The cemetery Committal Service Shelter is an open-air pavilion intended to provide shelter for interment services, away from the actual grave sites.
We are honored to have been selected to design this sacred place and take great pride in the finished product.
